| Water Distribution |
Click here to view a simple
water distribution system modelled with FluidFlow3. The image
is the actual flowsheet developed in FluidFlow3. There is no
limitation on the number of pumps and pipes that can be modelled
with FluidFlow3, so extensive systems can be be developed and
designed to determine the most efficient combination of pumps
and pipe size. |
| Wastewater |
FliudFlow3
and Fathom can be used for the design of pressurised (pipe full)
sewage systems. Networks similar to that shown in the Water Distribution
example can be modelled. A more specific example may be a sewage
pump station, with multiple pumps - duty and standby. For an
example of this see below. Another
area may be the simulation of a wastewater treatment plant utilising
coarse air diffusers. FluidFlow3 and AFT Arrow can be used to
design the air distribution system. Click
here for an example. |
| Desalination |
Desalination
using reverse osmosis requires that the low-pressure incoming
stream be raised to a high pressure prior to entering the membrane.
The reject brine is also at high pressure and this "waste"
high pressure can be used to raise the pressure of a supplementary
input to the membrane with consequentially virtually no energy
loss. Click here to see how FluidFlow3
was used to simulate the process. |
| Fire Protection |
Fire protection spray/sprinkler systems are extensively
described elsewhere on this site. FluidFlow3 has been used to
simulate the fixed fire protection system in a road traffic tunnel
in Brisbane, Australia. Click
here for an example. |
| District Heating and Cooling |
FluidFlow3 has been extensively used for the design
and simulation of large scale district cooling systems in Dubai.
For an example click
here. |
| Recreational |
FluidFlow3 and AFT Fathom are ideal for the design
of parks and golf course reticulation as well as water display
design. Accutech has simulated a golf course watering system
in Perth, Western Australia using our software. |
| Sewage Pumping and Water Hammer |
One aspect of pipe flow design which is often ignored
(very occasionally with catastrophic results) is water hammer.
More information is given in the Hytran and AFT Impulse sections
of this site, but for a relevant illustration click
here. |
| Sewage Sludge Pumping |
The applications described above have assumed water
as the fluid, with the characteristics of a Newtonian liquid.
Sewage sludge is non-Newtonian, ie its viscosity varies with
the applied shear stress. Sewage sludge is often considered to
be a Power Law fluid. FluidFlow3 can simulate the friction loss
in pipes for Power Law fluids. Click
hear for an example. |
| Natural Gas Reticulation |
GASWorkS is specifically designed for the simulation
of natural gas networks - distribution systems to homes, offices
and factories. Mount Hotham Management (Australia's premier skiing
resort authority) use FluidFlow3, Hytran and GASWorkS for the
design of utilities servicing the resort. |
