This project
involved the hydraulic design of a fixed fire protection system
for a tank farm. The hydraulic design complied with Australian
Standard 1940 "The storage and handling of flammable and
combustible liquids" and the client's own fire protection
manual.
Key elements
of the design were:
- Analysis of
the existing ringmain, hydrant and sprinkler system prior to
designing the upgrade pipework.
- Determining
the water requirements for tank cooling and foam generation based
on the Australian Standard and the client's specification.
- Defining sprinkler
types and spacing.
- Developing a
model with which various fire case scenarios could be simulated.
- Determining
pump performance, hydrant pressures and cooling water delivery
for any fire case study.
As part of this
study Accutech was engaged to witness test the pump to be used
in the fire protection system.
