An existing fixed fire protection system comprising more than
650 nozzles needed to be analysed. The system was made up of
several interconnected deluge systems on different levels of
the rig, all supplied by the same two seawater fire pumps.
Accutech was
commissioned to develop a computer model of the system.
Data was taken
off a number of drawings and the overall model developed using
the Piping Systems FluidFlow software. Parts of the model were
then checked using the Pipenet Spray/Sprinkler software.
Because of the
complexity of the pipe system, the overall model was developed
initially as seven sub-models (equivalent to the separate deluge
systems). These sub-models were then merged into one large model.
Pipenet Spray/Sprinkler
forces compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
design rules for pipe types, lining and equivalent lengths of
fittings.
